Aim: To assess and compare the knowledge regarding contraceptive methods among women before and after the Structured teaching programme (STP) in experimental and control group.
Methods: The present interventional study using pre-test post-test strategy was carried out in randomly selected two villages of district Ambala during December 2011. The sample comprised of 80 women selected through purposive sampling. Structured knowledge questionnaire was used for data collection. Knowledge was reassessed after imparting education to study subjects. Mean, standard deviations were calculated. T test was applied.
Results: The mean age of the women was 32.05 ± 3.21 years. 46% of the women were illiterate. Mean knowledge scores among women regarding contraceptive methods before and after the Structured teaching programme were 16.9 and 18.0 in the control group. Mean post test knowledge score of women was found to be significantly higher than the mean pre- test knowledge score of women in experimental group. (p<0.05)
Conclusion: The study concluded that the structured teaching programme was effective in terms of enhancing knowledge of women regarding contraceptive methods. The similar method can be adopted to enhance the knowledge as well as to improve the contraceptive practices under such communities.

It has been observed that there is a difference and loss of complexity in the human body between male and female. This is more prominent in the muscle strength and activity. Surface Electromyogram (sEMG) reflects the strength of muscle contraction. This gender related changes in sEMG have been associated with a reduction in the number of muscle fibers and a drop in the ratio of type II muscle fibers. In this study, we have modified our existing EMG model by populating lifelike parameters which is related to the changes in the muscle due to gender. In order to verify and identify the reasons for these changes, experiments were conducted on subjects male and female groups. Fractal dimension of sEMG, a measure of complexity was computed for both experimental and simulated sEMG signal. Results show that there was significant change in the fractal dimension of sEMG and this change was observed in both experimental and simulated sEMG.Keywords

Childbearing is a unique personal experience which is in most circumstances a normal yet critical life event, rather than a disease process. The joy and ecstasy of motherhood cannot be described in words. Unfortunately this blessing is fraught with danger especially for woman more so in under-developed countries due to inadequate health care facilities. Episiotomy has been routinely used surgical procedure to facilitate delivery. The mother undergoing episiotomy is at risk of greater blood loss in conjunction with delivery, improper wound healing and increased pain during early puerperium. Various interventions have been found to aid the episiotomy healing process which includes cleanliness, applying ice pack, topical application by dry heat, sitz bath, and Kegels' exercises. The present study compares the effectiveness of infrared light therapy vs. sitz bath therapy on episiotomy in terms of wound healing and intensity of pain among postnatal mothers. The study was conducted in postnatal wards of a multi speciality hospital. Using purposive sampling, 60 postnatal mothers with episiotomy were selected. Of these, 30 mothers were treated with infrared light and remaining thirty postnatal mothers were treated with sitz bath. Data was collected using REEDA Scale and Numerical Rating Scale. Findings revealed that both infrared light therapy and sitz bath were effective in enhancing episiotomy wound healing, however, sitz bath was significantly more effective in promoting episiotomy wound healing as compared to infrared light. Infrared light and sitz bath were both effective in terms of reducing intensity of episiotomy pain. Findings revealed no significant association of episiotomy wound healing of the postnatal mothers treated with infrared light therapy and sitz bath with selected variables. However, there was significant association of type of antibiotic taken by postnatal mothers with intensity of episiotomy pain. Keywords

Episiotomy has been routinely used surgical procedure to facilitate delivery. Maternal benefits attributed to the use of episiotomy include a reduced risk of perineal trauma, subsequent pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, urinary incontinence, faecal incontinence, and sexual dysfunction. Potential benefits to the foetus were thought to include a shortened second stage of labour resulting from more rapid vaginal delivery. The present study is aimed to compare the effectiveness of infra red light therapy vs. sitz bath on episiotomy in terms of episiotomy wound healing among postnatal mothers. The study was conducted in postnatal wards of Government multi speciality hospital, Chandigarh. A sample of 60 postnatal mothers with episiotomy was selected using purposive sampling; of these 60 postnatal mothers, 30 were treated with infra red light and remaining thirty postnatal mothers were treated with sitz bath. Data was collected using REEDA Scale. Analysis of data revealed that both sitz bath and infra red light therapy were effective in enhancing episiotomy wound healing, however, sitz bath was significantly more effective in promoting episiotomy wound healing as compared to infra red light. No significant association was found between episiotomy wound healing of the postnatal mothers treated with infra red light therapy and sitz bath and selected variables.
